Some big car rental companies don't accept international drivers license. If you have any problem to rent a car, we will introduce you a good local car rental company!!

It is a traditional event which local people gathers around a powerfully-burning bonfire to wish for happiness in the new year We also bring our New Year's decoration and "Kakizome", the Calligraphy at the beginning of the year, and burn them.

3rd March is ‘Hina Matsuri’ day in Japan! Families with daughters celebrate by displaying " Hina dolls" on a stepped shelf to express the wish for their daughter's good health and growth. Hina dolls are dressed in gorgeous KIMONO.

From 9th Feb. to 15th Apr., there will be held Hina Matsuri Festival at the Museum in Suzaka!!
More than 1,000 Hina dolls will be exhibited on the 30 steps.

You can stand and take a picture with hina dolls in front of the steps.

【Enjoy Bonssai in Suzaka, Nagano】

We had guests of Bonsai freak from Germany.
They met one famous woman Bonsai Artist, Yamamoto san in Suzaka yesterday. When they came back to guesthouse, they told us how much they love the way of her thinking, the way of her treating Bonsai, the attitude toward Bonsai. They said they got a really good class of Bosai from her.

If you are interested in Bonsai, don't miss to drop in Suzaka!!
There is one another famous Bonsai Artist in Suzaka. His name is Iura san. Of course the guests are heading to meet him this morning.




5年ゲストハウスを続けてきて、
彼らは何番目の盆栽フリークだろうか。
ドイツから来たらはもうかれこれ20年近く盆栽に向き合ってきたという。
予約の時点で、小布施の盆栽美術館に行きたいというので、盆栽に興味があるなら、ぜひ須坂の盆栽アーティストにも会ってほしい！と提案した。
昨日早速山本さんが営む須坂の松山園にお邪魔した。




ゲストハウスに帰ってきた彼らは、いかに山本さんに感動したかを熱く語ってくれた。
山本さんはそれはそれは丁寧に、盆栽の育て方、盆栽との向き合い方、盆栽の心得を彼らに伝えてくれたという。
彼らは、これまで出会ってきた盆栽師とは全く違うアプローチで山本んさんは盆栽を育てていると話してくれた。
ドイツに戻って、山本さんが教えてくれたことを活かして盆栽を育てるのが楽しみだという。
彼女は、「これで、もうボケの育て方がわかったよ！」とうれしそうに話してくれた。

今日はこれから、昨年内閣総理大臣賞を受賞した須坂のもう一人の巨匠、井浦さんのところへ。

盆栽を楽しむ世界中の方々に、
もっと須坂を知ってほしい。

私がゲストハウスを始める前に修行したのが「宿場JAPAN」

ここでの修行を決めたのは、オーナータカさんの想いに強く共感するところがあったから。
ゲストハウスでは日本の旅人に加え、海外からの旅人も受け入れている。
海外からの旅人は1週間～3か月くらい日本を旅しているがほとんど。
休暇で3か月も日本にいるなんて、私たちからしたら「長い」休みだが、
それでも、彼らは「短期間」日本に滞在する人たち。

ゲストハウス蔵で出会う海外からの旅人に日本の印象を聞いても
「日本人は信じられないくらい優しい」とか、
「全てがきちっとオーガナイズされている」
「道にゴミ箱がないのに、だれもゴミを捨てていない」とか、
大方好印象で、絶対また日本に来たい！と言ってくれる人が多い。


そう、日本はきっと、「短期間」旅をするにはとてもいい国なんだと思う。


では、旅人として、ではなく、「住人」として日本に住んでいる外国人にとって、「日本」はどんな国なんだろうか。
先の旅人たちの印象と違って、だいぶネガティブな印象が増えるのではないだろうか。
またそれは、国籍によってもだい印象が違うのかもしれない。

宿場JAPANで目指しているのは、短期滞在の旅人を受け入れる宿が町にできることで、
そして私たちの宿が「地域といっしょにやる宿」で、どんどん旅人に町に出て行ってもらい、
町の人たちと触れ合ってもらうことで、旅人もその町に受け入れてもらいやすい環境になる。
でも、宿場JAPANで目指したいのは、それだけではなく、旅人のみならず、そこに住む外国人にとっても住みよい町。
その町にあるゲストハウスがいいコミュニケーター役となって、その町を訪れる旅人にとっても、
その町に住む外国人にとっても、そしてもちろん、その町に住む住民にとっても住みよい環境を目指したい。
と、夢は大きいけれど、私たち宿屋ができることは、地道に日々旅人たちを受け入れる中でアンテナを張り続けるしかない。


須坂で宿を初めてもうすぐ5年が経とうとしている。
最近強く思うことは、須坂に住んでいる外国人が、日本に、そして須坂に住んでいて思うこととは？
彼らは須坂のコミュニティーに入れてきているのだろうか。
入りたいと思っているのか。
須坂に住む私たちは、そんな彼らの声に、きちんと耳を傾けられているのだろうか。


須坂は人口5万人の町。
28年度の統計では、須坂に住む外国人は499名。


よく耳にするのは「須坂にそんなに外国人住んでるんだ～」という声。
須坂に住む外国人の彼らが思うところを聞いてみたい。



須坂で「日本語スピーチコンテスト」をやりたい。

もう先週のことになりました。

たくさんの方にお越しいただき、今回のベトナムイベントは大成功となりました！
お越しくださった皆さま、本当に、本当に、ありがとうございました！

なにより、準備も大変だっただろう主催側のベトナムの彼らが、終わった後に、
本当に楽しい1日だったと笑顔を見せてくれたのが、私もとてもうれしかったです。




須坂は約5万人の町。
そのうち、どのくらいの外国の方が住んでいるか、須坂の方はご存知ですか。

開業当初から、「最近は須坂にも外国人が増えたねー。よくおっきい荷物持った外国人を見かけるよ。」と言われることが多いです。
ゲストハウス蔵に宿泊してくれているゲストの半分は外国からの旅人たち。
外国人ゲストが町に出て行っても、どこへ行っても、町の方々にとても良くしてもらっていて、須坂の町の印象はすごくいいんです。
本当に感謝しています。


ただ、一方で、短期的にではなく、須坂に住んでいる外国人も多いんです。
現在の市の統計では、456人の外国の方が須坂に住んでいます。
それを須坂の方々に話すと、「え～そんなに須坂に外国人いるかやー」という声をよく耳にします。
もしかしたら、それだけ、日本人コミュニティーと、外国人コミュニティーが分かれてしまっているのかもしれません。

須坂に住んでいる外国人の彼らにとって、須坂はどんな町に見えているのでしょう。

よく蔵に遊びに来てくれる須坂市在住の外国人の友達に、明日はここでお祭りだよ、
今度の週末はここでイベントがあるよ、と言っても、知らなかったりします。
彼らにまで情報が届いていない。
須坂を訪れる外国人観光客だけでなく、須坂に住んでいる外国の人にとっても、住みよい町であってほしい。

外国から来ている彼らと同じ町でどう仲良く暮らしていくか、それはもう、お互いをよく知るしかないと思うんです。
彼ら一人一人と、よく話す。

そのきっかけの場にもなってほしいと、今回のような地元に住んでいる外国の方を招いてその国の紹介と、
その国の料理を楽しむイベントをしてきました。

今回は約半年前から須坂に住み始めたベトナムの彼ら。
お越しいただいた皆さまにとって、少しでも「ベトナム」が身近に感じてもらえていたら、うれしいです。

スタッフのとしです。数日前、ゲストハウス蔵から徒歩圏内にある「鎌田山」へ行き、ハイキング＆ウォーキングしてきました。標高490mと低いながらも頂上からは須坂市内を一望できます。紅葉もまだまだきれいでした。
頂上で腰をおろして一息...それでも1時間半ほどでゲストハウスまで帰ってくる事ができます。須坂でもハイキングできるんです！！朝の散歩にぜひいかがでしょう(^^)？
「鎌田山」の隣には標高871mの「坂田山」、寒くなる前に挑戦してみようと思います！ご一緒できる方、ぜひ声かけてください！またレポートさせていただきます！

You can hike in Suzaka!!
I went to Mt.Kamata for hiking few days ago. We can get there by walk or bicycle from our guesthouse. The altitude of Mt.Kamata is 490 meters. This is not high altitude, but we can see the great view of Suzaka city from the peak. I recommend you go for a walk there in the morning!!

須坂も梅雨入りが発表され、昨晩は雨が降りましたが
本日はすこーし曇ってはいるもののぽかぽかのお散歩日和です。

生まれも育ちも須坂の地元っ子である私ですが、
ここを訪れたのは初めてかもしれない！

ゲストハウス蔵から徒歩2分ほどの、須坂市旧上高井郡役所。
大正時代のバロック様式の建物で、内部はひんやり涼しく、天井の高い休憩スペースは自由に使えます。

ゲストハウス蔵の裏通り、劇場通りにはその名から分かる通りに昔映画館がありました。
ご自宅がその映画館の隣りにあり、幼い頃より映画に関心を持ち映写技師として勤められた小林創さんがコレクションされた映画関係資料が、こちらで常設展示されています。

県内に唯一残る郡役所の建物を見るために、映画資料の展示をみるために、はたまた涼むために、この須坂市旧上高井郡役所を須坂のお散歩コースに加えてみてはいかがでしょうか～！


Hi it's Sayaka.
There is a baroque building which is built during the Taisho period (about one hundred years ago) about 2 min walk from Guest House KURA.
It's very cool inside even a hot day and you can see many kind of film posters and film tickets on display.

Il y a un bâtiment qui est construit pendant la période de Taisho (environ il y a cent ans), ça prend 2 minutes à pied pour y aller de Guest House KURA.

今月から蔵の新スタッフとして働いております。

須坂は桜も少しずつ散り始め、
春らしい陽気の暖かい日も段々と増えてきました。
写真は毎年恒例、百々川(どどがわ)を跨いではためく鯉のぼり。
何匹いるか数えましたが、途中で挫折しました。
メガネを持ってくればよかったー！
おそらく100匹超。
正確な数をご存知の方はいらっしゃいますか？
百々川はゲストハウス蔵より徒歩20分程度。
川沿いはお散歩に最適です。
ぜひお天気の良い日に散歩をしつつ、鯉の数を数えてみてください！





Hello I'm Guest House KURA's new staff member, Sayaka!
The cherry blossoms are starting to fall and it's getting warm in Suzaka.
You can see above a hundred Koinobori(big carp-shaped streamers) flowing across the Dodogawa river in Suzaka.
We fly them usually on a long pole outside of our houses from April through May 5 which was originally Boys’ Festival. There're few places you can see such a lot of Koinobori across the river like this.
The carp is believed to be a lucky fish symbolizing success in life so that families with boys fly Koinobori wishing for good health and growth for their boys .
It takes about 20 mins to get Dodogawa river from Guest House KURA on foot.
It's really nice to walk along the river on a nice sunny day!
